TrusTECH Seeks NHS Ideas to Improve Detection and Management of Diabetes

Numerous complications are associated with poorly managed and undiagnosed diabetes. And, with a dramatic increase the prevalence of the condition, it has never been more important to investigate new technologies, devices and products to improve care for patients with diabetes.

Diabetes is a national priority area and innovation plays an important role in improving the delivery of care for patients.  TrusTECH – the North West NHS Innovation Hub – has chosen to support Diabetes Week (10–16 June 2007) by focusing on ideas, to improve care for patients with diabetes, originating from NHS staff in the North West.  This year, the theme for Diabetes Week is “small change, big difference” and it is easy to see that, by caring for patients on a daily basis, NHS staff are an important source of new ideas that could make a big difference to the delivery of care.

Make a “small change, big difference”

TrusTECH has experience in protecting the intellectual property (IP) associated with new ideas and can provide funding to help NHS staff to
develop their ideas into successful products.  By working with
Trus
TECH
to develop their idea for a technology, device or product to improve the detection and management of diabetes, NHS staff in the North West could improve care for patients here and elsewhere, as well as raising the profile of the orignating Trust as an innovative organisation and generating financial rewards.

For Diabetes Week, contact TrusTECH

As most Trusts in the North West already subscribe to TrusTECH’s services, in the first instance, working with
Trus
TECH should simply involve making an appointment to speak with a TrusTECH Technology Manager to discuss the idea in confidence.  Following this initial discussion, the Technology Manager will be happy to investigate the potential of the idea and, if appropriate, the best way for the individual involved to further develop the idea.

Examples of the ideas sought by TrusTECH include: diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, software programmes, and training or educational tools to improve the detection or management of diabetes.
