TrusTECH Special Update
New staff have been appointed to expand the ACTNoW® clinical trials database, and establish the first NHS Technology Adoption Hub and the new Medilink North West franchise. With staff in post, the momentum of these projects is already picking up.
ACTNoW is a web-based resource for placing pharma and device clinical trials in the NHS – the NHS Technology Adoption Hub aims to analysis issues in adopting new technologies, and develop practical solutions to overcome the problems identified – and Medilink North West will encourage the growth and profitability of medical technology businesses in the North West by providing business support services and acting as a gateway between companies, academia and the NHS.
Innovation and Knowledge Sharing are Key
With the fundamental aim of improving patient care and systems efficiency, TrusTECH continually searches for new ways to extend and improve its service. Since its establishment in 2001, TrusTECH’s core activity has developed to provide an established and comprehensive innovation management service. Initially providing support for North West NHS staff developing healthcare products, the service was expanded in 2005 to encourage Trusts to share innovative services, and in November 2006 TrusTECH announced plans to manage new projects to supplement its existing innovation management service (NHS Technology Adoption Hub and Medilink North West).
The NHS is one of the largest and most comprehensive healthcare organisations in the World. Yet, companies and external researchers can find it difficult to gain assess to the rich knowledge base that exists within the NHS to, for example, gain expert opinions, and trial and develop new products. It can also take a long time for new technologies to be evaluated and adopted by the NHS. With this in mind, TrusTECH is working with the National Innovation Centre, other NHS agencies (including the North West SHA, NHS North West) and external contacts to improve the flow of innovation technologies through the NHS innovation and adoption pipelines.
