Case Studies - Inter-Faith Gown
Inter-Faith Gown
Introduction
The Inter-Faith Gown is a new hospital gown for patients who would like to be more modestly clothed.
The Problem
Some people may be reluctant to be admitted into hospital due to the revealing nature of traditional patient gowns.
The Solution
The Inter-Faith Gown is designed to preserve the modesty of patients whose culture or religion requires them to be more modestly clothed.
It is made up of five pieces – three head garments, a gown and trousers. These elements can be mixed-and-matched to enable the patient to obtain the required degree of coverage. The sleeves of the gown have elasticated cuffs to cover the patients' arms.
The Process
The Linen Services Manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust identified a need for the gown and developed the design. The idea was introduced to TrusTECH by the Trust’s R&D Manager.
TrusTECH supported the development of the gown by:
- Conducting initial market research
- Managing the intellectual property associated with the gown and the commercialisation of the gown
- Identifying a company (Interweave Textiles Limited) that was interested in manufacturing the gown
- Providing a commercial perspective on trialling the gown
- Managing negotiations and legal agreements between the NHS Trust and the company
