Rhinoplasty Model
Rhinoplasty Model
Introduction
Rhinoplasty – or nose job – is a common but complex procedure to alter the size or shape of the nose. It is performed for cosmetic reasons and also to enable patients to breathe more easily.
The Problem
In the past, no training aid was commercially available for students and doctors to practice the rhinoplasty techniques
The Solution
The Rhinoplasty Model is a nasal model (artificial nose and face) used to teach anatomy and rhinoplasty techniques. The model has a weighted head to provide stability during practice and a nasal insert, cartilage and cover that can be replaced to allow repeated use of the model.
The skills that can be demonstrated or practiced using the model include:
- Cosmetic surgery
- Straightening and improving nose function
- Restructuring and remodelling the nose (e.g. broken noses)
The Process
The idea for the Rhinoplasty Model came from a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He produced a Plaster of Paris prototype and contacted TrusTECH for advice about how he could further develop the idea and make it available to other Trusts.
TrusTECH managed the intellectual property associated with the idea, identified a company (Adam,Rouilly Limited) that was interested in manufacturing the model, and managed the negotiation and agreed licence terms between the NHS Trust and company.
Where Can I Get One?
The Rhinoplasty Model is available for purchase from Adam,Rouilly limited based in Kent, UK.
