Service Showcase - Double First for TrusTECH
Approximately, 90 NHS specialists with an interest in NHS service innovations and
developments gathered with anticipation at the first TrusTECH service innovation showcase on 1 December 2006. The showcase, held at the Core Technology Facility (Manchester), was not only the first showcase of its type, but also the first event to host the National Innovation Centre’s (NIC’s) ‘Wouldn’t It Be Great If’ (WIBGI) programme.
The flagship event provided interactive and topical workshops led by leaders in service provision in four priority areas (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sexual health, smoking cessation and mental health). Delegates were given the opportunity to learn more about the importance of service innovation in the NHS and the TrusTECH service through presentations (featuring guest speaker Mandy Wearne [Director of Provider and Market Development, NHS North West]) and a poster session, showcasing 11 examples of innovative services and service developments that are available through the TrusTECH Service Innovation Scheme.
“Mandy (was) inspiring. (She) made you think about how innovative
ideas can work in different aspects of health and social care...”
Through WIBGI workshops, the showcase encouraged delegates to discuss and put forward to the NIC issues, problems and difficulties they face in delivering care on a daily basis. These ideas will be considered at a national level by the NIC and form an important basis for the development of new innovations to help target the needs of NHS Trusts. As part of the National Institute for Innovation and Improvement (www.institute.nhs.uk) the NIC is working to speed up the development and adoption of technological innovations.
The TrusTECH service innovation scheme, established in 2005, recognises that not all innovations benefit from commercialisation and encourages staff to share innovations freely within the NHS. Through its Innovation Management Service, TrusTECH helps NHS staff to identify, protect and commercialise healthcare innovations.
