2005 Innovation Competition

Rules & Regulations Relating to the Submission of Entries to the North West NHS Innovation Competition 2005

  • You must be aged over 18 years and be employed by an NHS organisation or hold an honorary contract with an NHS organisations located in the North West region. The North West region, for the purpose of this competition, exclusively includes: Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and NE Wales NHS Trust.
  • Your submission must be capable of being assigned to one of the Award categories for the year of entry. The categories for 2005 are: (1) Innovative Service (2) Innovative Medical Device or Technology.
  • All competition entries will be considered in confidence.
  • An applicant may submit more than one innovation for the competition.
  • A team may submit applications. The competition prize will then be awarded to the team as a whole.
  • All project ideas and designs should demonstrate originality. This may be in the form of improvements to existing products or as totally new concepts. Violation of intellectual property rights and patents will result in disqualification. We reserve the right of legal redress for loss incurred as a result of an infringement of existing intellectual property.
  • Proposals that are already receiving funding are eligible to enter the competition, although disclosure to the judges is essential. The competition places no constraints on entrants or winning applications.
  • No applications can be accepted after the deadline. The organising body (TrusTECH), however, reserves the right to change the deadline. TrusTECH will make every effort to conform to these deadlines; should a change be required, we will publish it on the TrusTECH website.
  • Applications must state clearly the purpose and performance of the idea and should also give details of any contributing parties such as your employer and any external consultants or investors.
  • Pre-existing external resources must be declared (e.g. company sponsors, donated materials/components).
  • Decisions on all matters relating to this competition will be made by the judges of the Awards and will be final. No discussion on these decisions will be entered into with competition entrants.
  • Finalists may instruct TrusTECH to request feedback from the judging panel.
  • TrusTECH reserves the right to change or withdraw competition categories at its discretion. In this situation entries will be moved into the next suitable category. The applicants concerned will be informed on the website and by e-mail.
  • The closing date for the first stage of submissions is 4pm 9th March 2005. Any entries received after this time will not be accepted, and no discussion will be entered into.
  • TrusTECH reserves the rights to extend the deadline for the competition. If this is the case details will be posted on the TrusTECH website.
  • Entries may be withdrawn up until the time of the deadline.
  • TrusTECH employees, the Award Judges or members of their families will not be eligible to enter.
  • TrusTECH takes no responsibility for and makes no guarantee regarding the receipt of intact entries, and any loss is entirely at the entrant's own risk.
  • TrusTECH reserves the right to withhold any award or change its terms, conditions and rules without notice.
  • Entries will be assessed in the first instance by TrusTECH for compliance with the Rules and Regulations and suitability for before being submitted to the Award Judges. Please note: Entries failing to comply with the entry form requirements will NOT be eligible for entry into the competition. Entrants failing this first screening will be notified by TrusTECH and may be invited to resubmit at the discretion of the judging committee.
  • Entry-form compliant entries will be passed onto the award judging panel for assessment.
  • TrusTECH will at no time pass your details on to any third party. However, in certain cases TrusTECH and or its Judges may feel that they or other parties or organisations may be able to offer help to progress or add value to the innovation. In such cases, TrusTECH reserves the right to contact entrants and invite them, with no obligation, to discuss the proposition with TrusTECH and or its partnering organisations. Entrants may choose not to be approached by TrusTECH by selecting the appropriate box in the competition entry form.
  • The entrants may not contact any member of the Judging Committee. In the event of such contact being made immediate disqualification will result.
  • Any attempt to bias the judging process will result in disqualification.
  • No appeals against the judging panel decision will be accepted. The decision of the judging panel is final.
