TrusTECH Director wins Bionow Award!

On the 9th November, Keith Chantler, TrusTECH Executive Director, was awarded the prestigious Bionow Biotechnology Personality of the Year Award.

Dr Linda Magee, Head of Bionow, NWDA, said:

“The 4th annual Northwest Biotechnology Awards recognise excellence within the biotechnology industry. England’s North West is one of the top three bioscience clusters in the UK and it is right that we celebrate achievements in this vital sector”

Presenting the award was Professor John Caldwell, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Liverpool, who said:

“Keith is a great communicator and promoter of the Northwest’s capabilities and has many achievements including: his major contribution to the successful regional bid for nowgen, the North West Genetic Knowledge Park, the UKCRN for Medicine for Children and the establishment of the Greater Manchester Research Alliance. This is in addition to steering TrusTECH – the Northwest NHS Innovations Hub.

More recently, Keith has led the ACTNoW project, establishing the ACTNOW database to attract increasing numbers of clinical trials to the North West. He also contributes to numerous bodies, which seek to support innovation and industry interaction including the Department of Health Intellectual Property Forum, the NWDA’s Innovation Advisory Board, the Bionow Steering Committee and Dti working groups.”

On receiving his award, Keith said:

“I am very proud to receive this award, which I take as a signal, of the increasing recognition in the North West of the valuable contribution that the NHS makes to the regions bio-health research. The NHS enables Universities and Academics to gain access to the unique clinical test bed which is the NHS, and it is also recognition of the NHS as a major influencing factor in the economic wellbeing of our region.

The North West has a growing reputation as the best place in the UK in which to undertake clinical research and by working together we will achieve even greater success for the benefit of the North West citizens.”
