TrusTECH Backs Bid for Liverpool Biomedical Research Centre

TrusTECH is supporting the application by the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Liverpool to become one of England’s flagship research centres for Microbial Disease. If successful, the bid for a Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) in Liverpool will bring together the excellent clinical base of the hospital with world class academics from the University and School of Tropical Medicine to discover new treatments and diagnostic techniques.

By leading research in microbiology and pharmacology, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Liverpool already make a significant contribution to the treatment of microbial diseases. The proposal submitted by the partnership focuses on four topical research themes – pulmonary infectious diseases, sexual health, community & hospital acquired infection and the safety of anti-microbial drugs.

The Liverpool collaboration is bidding for one of five centres of research excellence in specific topic areas. The BRCs are being introduced nationally by the Department of Health to accelerate the scale and pace of the translation of science into new healthcare treatment and diagnostic services. Ultimately, the centres aim to drive innovation in healthcare and translate advances in biomedical research into patient benefits.

TrusTECH is also supporting the application for a Biomedical Research Centre by the Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s University Hospitals NHS Trust and University of Manchester Partnership.
