Information Governance Workbook – Mental Health, Acute, PCT and Ambulance Trust Versions Available

Mersey Care NHS Trust

This workbook reports Information Governance standards consisting of: Information Governance Management, Confidentiality and Data Protection Assurance, Information Security Assurance, Clinical Information Assurance, Secondary Uses Assurance and Corporate Records Assurance.

Each standard has a separate spreadsheet to report against individual attainments and each spreadsheet is followed by a report and graphs for that standard. The figures are exported automatically into the report and give an accurate picture of the Trust’s progress against that particular standard, a comparison is included in relation to performance on last years figures.

Each requirement is risk assessed with the levels of associated risk calculated automatically, risks are highlighted in order of severity (e.g. red = extreme and green = low). This information automatically updates the risk register for use by the risk management department within the Trust, to inform their work and reporting systems.

The system has a PowerPoint presentation included to provide information and guidance to new users as an integral training module.

The workbook allows Information Governance staff to describe their work in the common language of risk, understood by Board members. This takes the decisions about risk management to the appropriate committee: ‘Risk’ or ‘Board’ rather than remaining with an individual.

Additional benefits include assurances given to patients and the public that Trusts are seeking effective and efficient methodologies of improving performance. More importantly, a compliant Trust should improve its risk profile and reduce complaints, claims and litigation.

The SEED group have recently designed a new building to outline business case stage. The project was developed in order to gain meaningful input into buildings design from a normally marginalised group of service users.
