Health Technology Devices R&D Programme

The next deadline for outline applications to the Health Technology Devices (HTD) funding programme is 17.00 on Monday 10 March 2008.

HTD is a UK-wide funding programme led by the Departments of Health and provides matched-funding support for R&D into innovative healthcare technologies involving collaboration between industry, academia, and the NHS.

  • Applications are invited for projects concerning:
  • Medical devices (including tissue engineering and trauma care devices);
  • Devices that interact with medical devices used in the NHS;
  • Novel information technology development that enables a significant improvement in the performance of healthcare technologies;
  • Healthcare devices for use in the community and patient home.

Project teams must contain at least one industrial collaborator and at least one research-based collaborator, and projects are limited to a maximum duration of three years. Government support is typically up to 50 per cent of the total project value, with the remaining support provided by the project industrial collaborators through either cash or in-kind contributions.

The application process is managed through the Health Technology Portal, an interactive website that provides background information and allows the electronic preparation, submission and review of proposals.
