NHS Innovation Competition Attracts Record Number of Entries

Competition Nurse GraphicThe North West NHS Innovation Awards, which identifies healthcare products and innovative services developed within the North West, has received a record number of entries for this year’s awards.

The awards are an annual competition delivered by TrusTECH® (the North West NHS Innovation Hub) in partnership with NHS North West. More than 200 entries have been received for the competition, which gives NHS Trusts and employees recognition for their work and encourages them to seek advice from TrusTECH on how their projects may be commercialised or shared to provide patient benefits on a wider scale.

The competition, which closed for entries on the 28 September 2007, received entries from NHS organisations across the region. Those who enter have the chance to win £1000 to further develop or promote adoption of their innovative products and services, along with innovation management support from TrusTECH. Trusts entering the competition may also benefit from their applications being submitted to the national NHS Innovation Awards, organised by the National Innovation Centre.

Finalists of the regional competition will be notified of the outcome of the judging session on 6 November 2007 at an awards ceremony at the Lowry Theatre, Salford.

Dr Richard Deed, TrusTECH Innovation Unit Manager, said: “I am delighted by the number of entries that we have received this year and look forward to looking at them in more detail. The volume of entries reflects the enthusiasm of NHS employees in finding new improved ways to provide better patient care and underlines their role in shaping the future healthcare service”.
