North West NHS Innovation Awards (£8000 Prize Fund) - Launch in May

Managed by TrusTECH, and sponsored by NHS North West, the North West NHS Innovation Awards provide the opportunity to win up to £3000 and advice from NHS Innovation Managers at TrusTECH.
Short-listed applicants will be invited to attend an award ceremony on Tuesday 28 October 2008 in the North West. Winning applications for the North West NHS Innovation Awards* may automatically be entered in the National NHS Innovation Awards, so entering is also an excellent way of raising the profile of your Trust as an innovative organisation within the North West and beyond.
Who Should Apply?
The awards are open to anyone with an employment or honorary contract with a North West NHS organisation. Last year, the North West NHS Innovation Awards attracted a record number of 217 entries from Trusts across the region.
TrusTECH strongly urges any employee who:
- is developing or has an idea for a new healthcare product; or
- has implemented an innovative service that has demonstrated improved patient care, cost savings or other benefits within their Trust
to apply for the awards this year.
The main applicant must be employed by a NHS organisation in the North West of England, or have an honorary contract with such an organisation.
The innovation described in the application should:
a. Be original and innovative (the applicant must have made reasonable efforts to ensure that a similar innovation has not been developed elsewhere)
b. Meet a clear healthcare need
c. Have the ability to benefit healthcare
d. Have been developed by the applicant (either alone or in collaboration with others)
e. Fit into one of the competition categories
Categories
This year, applications are invited for each of the four core categories below (each with a £1000 prize for the first prize winner). Applicants are also provided with the opportunity to win one of two additional NHS North West-sponsored awards** for £2000 during the application process.
1. Training or Educational Materials
2. Medical Device, Equipment, Diagnostics, or Therapeutics
3. Software/Systems
4. Service Innovations or Developments
Please note that applicants are strongly advised to read the rules before attempting to complete the application form. Please note that you are also advised to follow the guidance notes that appear for some questions as you complete the online form.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4 July 2008 at 16.00 (4pm). Applicants are encouraged to submit their entries early (before 30 June 2008) to go into a prize draw to win one of several USB Drives.
