Innov-age Issue 17 Available Now!
We are pleased to announce the release of the spring edition of Innov-age magazine.
This issue focuses on nutrition among the elderly, a topic of increasing importance in the wake of growing levels of old-age malnutrition. Contributors to this issue include:
- Jane Alderdice, Therapy Services Manager/ Professional Lead for Dietetics at Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, who discusses the importance of good nutritional status for older people.
- Siân Robinson, Professor of Nutritional Epidemiology at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit, University of Southampton, who talks about promoting good nutrition in older age. Siân informs us of current studies looking to improve where and how we promote good nutrition in older adults.
- Mathew Done, Owner and Founder of Slõ Drinks, who informs us of the problems which arise from dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). Elderly patients with dysphagia often change the consistency of fluids by adding thickener. Slõ Drinks offer safer to swallow and easy to prepare palatable drinks that are available for hydration, medication and recreational purposes.
This issue also examines research active hospices, the impact of trained volunteers for mealtime care in hospitals, oral care observations and a Cochrane Corner review on nutrition for healthy ageing.
Each issue of Innov-age features articles written by leading professionals from within the NHS and beyond. By sharing best practice and innovation, Innov-age aims to help improve the care and safety of older people.
Innov-age is published quarterly in both print and digital versions. It was launched by the Edward Centre for Healthcare Management Research, part of the Edward Healthcare group of companies. It is produced in association with TRUSTECH, MIMIT and MAHSC.
Edward Healthcare is an established care provider with elder care facilities in China and an international investor in healthcare research. Edward Healthcare set up the Manchester-based research centre in conjunction with TRUSTECH, the North West NHS Innovation Service, MIMIT (Manchester Integrating Medicine and Innovative Technology) and Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, to explore international care systems and industry best practice.
