CHAINS: Child and Adolescent Information System for CAMHS
The Technology
A consultant adolescent psychiatrist has developed a new system to improve the delivery and administration of child and adolescent mental heath services (CAMHS). The Child and Adolescent Information System (CHAINS) is a moderate sized programme that covers a number of clinical activity areas. It is available as either a single user package for small isolated clinics or as a multi-user package for larger services. Unlike other similar systems that are often too generic, CHAINS has been developed to manage the work that most CAMHS departments carry out. Key Functions of CHAINS include: the logging of patient demographic information, recording of patient diagnoses and appointments, and storage and viewing of outcome measures.
The Advantages
- Specific to CAMHS services
- Processes data to give users information of real value
- Enables data collection across all four service tiers
- Easy and flexible to use
- Contains a search and filter function
The Potential Market
In 2004, 1 in 10 children aged between 5 and 16 in the UK had a clinically recognisable mental disorder. There is increasing pressure on health organizations to provide a quicker and more efficient CAMHS.
