RSS (Really Simple Syndication), also know as web feeds, enables you to keep up to date with TrusTECH news without needing to visit its website. Subscribing to web feeds can save you time and enable you to more easily identify updates within the sections of the website which are of most interest to you.
Guide To RSS
1. What software do I need to use web feeds?
Web feeds are web pages, which are designed to be read by computers. To use web feeds you need to download a piece of software called a feed reader (also known as an aggregator). Feed readers check the web feeds that you have subscribed to and identify any new pages that are added.
2. How do I get a feed reader?
You can download free feed readers from the internet. Some are accessed using a browser and others deliver updates direct to your email. Examples include: Attensa for Outlook; Microsoft Live; My Yahoo; Google Reader; and Newsgator.
3. What information can I receive via the feed reader?
The visual appearance of the information will differ according to which feed reader you choose to use. However, via the reader you will receive a summary of the update (which links to the relevant website page for further information), and the source and date/time of the update.
Once you have downloaded and installed a feed reader, look through the TrusTECH website, decide what type of information you would like to receive and then follow the instructions under point 4.
4. How do I subscribe to receive TrusTECH updates via RSS?
To subscribe to updates in a particular section of the website, you need to click the orange button in the relevant section, and cut and paste the URL (e.g. www.trustech.org.uk/rss/) into your feed reader.
For example, if you would like to receive the latest news, simply visit the News section, click the orange button at the top right of the page, and cut and paste the URL into your feed reader.
Similarly, you can subscribe to receive the latest information from other frequently updated sections of the website (such as the Service Innovation Bulletin section). In the Service Innovation Bulletin section, it is possible to subscribe to receive information about all new service innovations and developments added to the site by clicking on the orange button on the main Service Innovation Bulletin page.
Or, you can subscribe to receive service innovation updates from one particular area (e.g. those of particular interest to people working within Acute Trusts) by clicking the orange button in the appropriate sub-section of the Service Innovation Bulletin part of the website.
Alternatively, to receive information from all RSS-enabled areas of the TrusTECH website, just click the orange button on the homepage.
5. How can I avoid receiving duplicate information?
The information that you access by subscribing to the RSS may duplicate that contained in the TrusTECH newsletter (TrusTECH News) or Service Innovation Bulletin. If you currently receive the newsletter or bulletin by post or email, you can unsubscribe by contacting Emma Smith, TrusTECH Communications Officer (T: 0161 276 6964).
6. How can I get help?
The NHS Library for Health RSS Tutorial has an excellent overview of RSS. Alternatively, contact Emma Smith, TrusTECH Communications Officer (T: 0161 276 6964)
7. How do I unsubscribe?
You will need to visit the feed reader that you installed to unsubscribe from RSS updates.
